When EA Sports revived the flagging NFL Blitz franchise it came with high expectations, having started life in 1997 as an over-the-top, NFL arcade game. EAS wanted to retain the spirit of the original but breathe new life into the franchise via modern game graphics technology and realistic NFL environments.
The first task was choosing a worthy cover athlete. A three way vote between the Ravens Ray Rice, the 49ers Patrick Willis and the Falcons Roddy White was handled via Facebook. The ultimate victor, Ray Rice was announced live on Spike TV’s Video Game Awards, and then Popgun was asked to run with the ball.
In game 3D models were rebuilt to HD fidelity and posed in the athletes’ signature moves. Finally, the flame was lit and the coliseum became a fiery inferno worthy of an epic NFL Blitz battle. Touchdown Popgun.
